Barry's Economics investigates how systems of power shape our identity, behaviour and beliefs
and why so many of us blame ourselves for problems that were never ours to solve.
We can shift the stories we tell ourselves about poverty, inequality, and who's to blame.
I'm Barry Ferns.
After 17 years as a comedian, I went bankrupt and spent five years squatting, sometimes homeless, and living with paralysis.
Eventually, I built Angel Comedy into one of London's most popular comedy clubs. The turning point wasn't working harder - it was unlearning the lie that my poverty was my fault.
Now, through economics, behavioural science and neuroscience, I investigate the invisible systems that shape our lives: how poverty traps our psychology, why inequality persists, and why the current system works best when we blame ourselves instead of questioning it.
Inspired by Gary's Economics, this is an ongoing investigation into how power really works - and we're figuring it out together.
